Earth’s Diversity Expedition
The theme of this year’s painting competition is “Biodiversity,” titled “Earth’s Diversity Expedition.” This theme addresses the growing global concern regarding natural ecosystems and the diversity of life amid climate change and rapid environmental transformation. Biodiversity encompasses species diversity, genetic variation, and ecosystem complexity—the essential foundation for maintaining Earth’s ecological balance, supporting human well-being, and ensuring sustainable development for future generations.
This theme echoes the goals of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, aligning with the 2030 action target of “halting and reversing biodiversity loss” and the 2050 global vision of “living in harmony with nature.”
Taiwan, situated at the intersection of tropical and subtropical zones, possesses rich and unique biodiversity and is recognized as a global ecological hotspot. Through this year’s theme, we invite students to explore the natural environments in their daily lives, to understand the interdependencies among different forms of life, and to reflect on how humanity can coexist sustainably with nature.
Through artistic expression, we aim to connect marine and terrestrial conservation (SDG 14 and SDG 15) and extend the dialogue to broader sustainability issues such as climate action, water resources, food security, and responsible consumption. We encourage the next generation to use their creativity to envision and illustrate a diverse and sustainable future for our planet.
